In a momentous occasion for Mississippi, Governor Tate Reeves has signed off on a groundbreaking economic development project, the largest in the state’s history. Amazon Web Services, Inc. (AWS) is set to invest a staggering $10 billion in the establishment of multiple data center complexes across two industrial parks in Madison County. This landmark investment promises to generate a minimum of 1,000 high-paying, high-tech jobs, marking a significant leap forward in the state’s economic landscape.
The magnitude of AWS’s commitment cannot be overstated, as it represents the single largest capital investment in Mississippi’s history, quadrupling the size of the previously largest economic development project.
Complementing this historic investment is another major economic development led by Accelera, in collaboration with Cummins, Daimler Trucks & Buses, and PACCAR. This $1.9 billion private sector investment focuses on bringing advanced battery cell production operations to Marshall County. It is expected to create 2,000 jobs, with an average annual salary of $66,000, setting a new record for the largest payroll commitment in any major project within the state.
Governor Tate Reeves, in celebrating this achievement, stated, “Mississippi has written another chapter for the history books. This $10 billion private sector investment is proof that Mississippi can compete against the fiercest competition in economic development and win. It really is an awesome day for our entire state, and I’m so proud we could get this project done. Something special is happening in Mississippi, and we’re not going to let up anytime soon.”
