Adams County supervisors have advanced plans to move the E911 call center from the basement of the county jail to a building they bought off Liberty Road. The county jail has been plagued for several years by structural problems. Supervisors have been anxiously awaiting a decision by city officials on whether they’ll go along with plans for the new emergency-call center.
Also to be finalized by the city and county boards is a renewed fire-fighting arrangement that Natchez-Adams County has had since 1994 for the Natchez Fire Department to respond to fires outside the city. The county Board of Supervisors has been paying the city to have the NFD fight fires to augment the county’s volunteer firemen, fire trucks and equipment.
Aldermen discussed the proposals with NFD Chief Robert Arrington at Tuesday’s board meeting but didn’t publicly go into much detail. The city and county boards have been negotiating the E911 and fire-fighting compacts for many months.
Also being worked out is a new arrangement for the city and county to operate the community pool and soccer field. A drafted agreement has the county operating the public pool with a three-member commission overseeing it and the city recreation department managing the nearby soccer field.
Mayor Dan Gibson said the city and county boards will meet together about the compacts before agreements are ratified.
