Motorists are advised to avoid a section of Sgt Prentiss Dr following a significant accident. the accident happened between Fatherland Road and Parkway Baptist Church, an 18-wheeler spilled its cargo of aluminum onto the roadway. Authorities are on site, conducting extensive cleanup operations which are expected to be completed by the end of the day.
Natchez Police Chief Cal Green stated that the accident caused a portion of the truck’s load to spill. Crews are working to cut up and safely remove the debris, which may take several hours.
Motorists traveling from the downtown area towards Sgt Prentiss Dr should be aware. While drivers can turn left off Melrose Avenue to continue northbound, right turns towards the hospital from Melrose onto Sgt Prentiss Dr are temporarily prohibited until the road is deemed safe for travel.
Police and road crews are directing traffic around the impacted area and suggest seeking alternative routes and to avoid that area if possible until the cleanup is complete.
