Natchez, MS — The City of Natchez Fire Department has begun a citywide fire hydrant flushing operation as part of its regular maintenance of the municipal water system, according to a notice from the Adams County Emergency Management Agency. The work, which began earlier this month, is expected to continue through the end of August.
Flushing fire hydrants is apart of water system upkeep, ensuring both water quality and fire protection readiness.
During the flushing period, residents in the City of Natchez may temporarily experience:
-
Discolored water: Typically caused by stirred-up minerals and air in the system. This discoloration does not affect water safety.
-
Reduced water pressure: A temporary drop in pressure may occur when hydrants near your area are being flushed.
If you notice discolored water:
-
Run cold water only from your tap for several minutes until it clears.
-
If discoloration continues in hot water, it may be necessary to flush your hot water heater.
A Call for Patience and Cooperation
While the flushing process may pose a minor inconvenience, city officials emphasize that every effort will be made to minimize disruptions.
For further updates or assistance, residents are encouraged to contact the City of Natchez or the Adams County Emergency Management Agency.
