A recent restructuring effort at the Concordia Parish Women’s Correctional Facility has resulted in the arrest and termination of three correctional officers accused of bringing contraband into the jail, according to a release from Sheriff David Hedrick’s office.
Sheriff Hedrick stated that the arrests stem from ongoing operational changes designed to tighten security and improve inmate safety within the facility. An interim warden has been appointed to oversee the women’s facility, with additional senior staff brought in to help guide the restructuring process.
“I am disappointed that these officers chose to make such a foolish decision,” Sheriff Hedrick said in the release. “I will continue to hold my employees to a high standard of conduct and accountability. We simply will not tolerate contraband of any type being brought into our facilities.”
The officers arrested, were identified as:
-
Kedashia M. Smith, 23, of Natchez, Mississippi — charged with Introduction of Contraband into a Penal Institute, Malfeasance in Office (two counts), and Open Container.
-
Lakeria D. Adams, 24, of Natchez, Mississippi — charged with Malfeasance in Office and Open Container.
-
Jada Duck, 20, of Natchez, Mississippi — charged with Introduction of Contraband into a Penal Institute, Malfeasance in Office, and Open Container.
Each of the three officers was immediately terminated following their arrest.
Authorities have not released details about the type of contraband allegedly introduced into the facility.
It is important to note that all individuals charged in this case are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
The Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office stated that it remains committed to maintaining integrity and accountability among its staff as it continues efforts to strengthen operations and security at the women’s correctional facility.
