esidents across the Miss-Lou may want to look up this afternoon, as a distinctive blimp is expected to pass overhead between approximately 2 and 3 p.m. as part of a nationwide promotional campaign for an upcoming film release.
The blimp is part of the marketing rollout for Marty Supreme, a new A24 film opening in theaters this weekend. The movie is written and directed by Josh Safdie and is loosely inspired by the life of Marty Reisman, a legendary and controversial professional table tennis player from the 1950s.
In the film, Timothée Chalamet stars as Marty Mauser, a talented but deeply overconfident ping pong player whose ambition and ego gradually lead him down darker and more self-destructive paths. The cast also includes Gwyneth Paltrow, Odessa A’zion, Kevin “Mr. Wonderful” O’Leary, Tyler “the Creator” Okonma in his film debut, Abel Ferrara, and Fran Drescher.
The blimp itself is an A60R model built in 2002, registered as N614LG, and rented from Skyship Services out of Los Angeles. Its design is modeled after an oversized orange ping pong ball — a visual nod to a fictional product created by Chalamet’s character in the film. The unconventional look ties directly into the movie’s marketing theme, which embraces Marty’s shameless self-promotion rather than subtlety.
“Movie marketing today is trying to be passive, trying to be chic,” Chalamet said in a promotional video for the campaign. “We’re not trying to be chic.”
The blimp has been making appearances across several U.S. cities in recent weeks, including El Paso.
Marty Supreme premiered at the New York Film Festival on October 6 and is scheduled for a nationwide release on Friday, December 26, including local theaters. Early reviews have been largely positive, with several publications already labeling the film as a potential contender for the 98th Academy Awards in March 2026.
Weather permitting, the blimp should be visible from much of the Miss-Lou during its afternoon pass.
