Adams County Sheriff Travis Patten participated in a panel discussion with FBI Director Kash Patel on Monday during the Small and Rural Law Enforcement Executives Association’s annual conference in Orlando, Florida, according to reporting by The Natchez Democrat.
Patten, the association’s president-elect, and Patel were joined by the organization’s current president, Cheshire County, New Hampshire, Sheriff Eli Rivera.
Patten is scheduled to be sworn in as president of the national association on Tuesday. His installation will make him the first Mississippi sheriff in more than two decades to lead a national law enforcement organization.
The late Tommy Ferrell was the last sheriff from Mississippi to serve as president of a national law enforcement organization. Ferrell led the National Sheriffs’ Association from 2002 to 2003.
Patten’s elevation comes as Natchez prepares to host the Small and Rural Law Enforcement Executives Association’s 2027 annual conference. The event is scheduled for July 24-27, 2027, at the Natchez Convention Center.
More than 250 conference attendees are expected to travel to Natchez, along with their spouses and representatives from law enforcement vendors. The gathering is expected to bring law enforcement executives from small and rural communities across the country to the city for several days of professional development and networking.
