Louisiana’s Secretary of State’s Office has released its inactive voter list ahead of a general election three months from today. This year’s inactive voter list is around 447,000, which is lower than last year. Voters are placed on the inactive list if they do not respond to an address confirmation request or if they have not voted in the last 10 years. Being on the inactive voter list does not cancel registration. Voters are removed from the voter rolls if they do not cast a ballot in the next two federal election cycles.
Mississippi lawmakers are preparing discussions about potentially redrawing congressional and legislative maps following a U.S. Supreme Court ruling that could affect how district lines are drawn. Lawmakers will serve on a joint committee on reapportionment and redistricting. The lawmakers were selected by Lieutenant Governor Delbert Hoseman and House Speaker Jason White. The joint committee is scheduled to meet at the Mississippi State Capitol today.
Back-to-school shopping is underway as the calendar moves into August. The National Retail Federation says the majority of back-to-school shoppers have already started purchasing, with a record 32% shopping as early as June. The federation reports that shoppers’ preferences among online, department stores, and discount stores are fairly even. Total spending on back-to-school shopping is expected to reach nearly $147 billion this year.
