Asbestos abatement work is now underway at the Fry Building on Franklin Street as the City of Natchez continues preparations for the building’s planned demolition later this fall.
City officials announced that the project began today and warned that unauthorized individuals are no longer permitted to enter the building while work is in progress. Residents are being asked to respect all barriers, posted signage, and restrictions around the property to ensure the safety of both the public and construction crews.
According to the city, the asbestos removal is being conducted as an EPA-sanctioned project, with appropriate environmental monitoring in place and all required safety procedures being followed throughout the process.
The asbestos abatement is a necessary step before demolition can begin. City officials said the work is part of ongoing efforts to improve downtown Natchez and thanked the public for its cooperation as the project moves forward.
