Mike Detillier, a familiar voice to generations of football fans across Louisiana, has died at the age of 65, WWL Radio announced Sunday.
Detillier was a longtime college and professional football analyst for WWL Radio. He spent more than four decades on the station, becoming one of the region’s best-known voices on the Saints, LSU and the NFL draft.
For decades, Detillier was a fixture on New Orleans sports radio, known for his detailed knowledge of college and professional football and his extensive work evaluating NFL draft prospects. His death comes just as the football season gets underway.
Detillier was 65.
The Saints released the following statement regarding his passing:
“The New Orleans Saints organization is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of WWL Radio host Mike Detillier. A proud son of Louisiana, Mike was widely respected as a gifted football analyst, a trusted guide through the NFL Draft, and an exceptional family man. Beyond his incredible contributions to the game, he was above all a true gentleman and a dedicated family man. Saints gamedays at the Caesars Superdome, training camp practices, and press conferences simply will not be the same without his presence. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his immediate family and to the community of devoted listeners who considered him a friend over the airwaves.”
