Six people were injured during a two-vehicle crash Sunday night in Wilkinson County. The Mississippi Highway Patrol said the crash occurred on Highway 24 around 6:30 p.m.
Troopers reported that a 2009 Jeep was traveling west on the highway when it collided with a disabled Chrysler that had two adults and four minors inside. The six people in the Chrysler were taken to the hospital with injuries. The driver of the Jeep was not hurt. The crash remains under investigation by the Mississippi Highway Patrol.
In federal news, Senator Bill Cassidy was among 77 senators who voted in favor of the Protect College Sports Act. During debate, Senator John Kennedy proposed an amendment to cap ticket price increases at 4%. Cassidy voted to kill the amendment.
In Mississippi law enforcement, an arrest has been made in the death of Floyd Alex Rosemond, whose body was found more than five years ago. Copiah County Sheriff Byron Swilley said Whit Tyler Holmes was arrested and charged with capital murder. First responders were called to Rosemond’s address in August 2021, where he was found dead. The case was initially called in as a suicide, but investigators later ruled it a homicide. The sheriff said additional arrests are expected.
Diesel prices were also reported as increasing. GasBuddy.com chief petroleum analyst Patrick DeHunt said the average diesel price in Louisiana is about $5.85 per gallon. DeHunt said fuel prices are rising globally due to conflicts involving Iran and the U.S., as well as Ukrainian drone strikes on Russian refineries. He said prices are expected to continue rising until there is de-escalation or until the issues driving the higher prices are addressed.
Finally, in river conditions, the Mississippi River in the Natchez-Vidalia area was reported at 18.55 feet and rising.
