A joint narcotics operation in Natchez resulted in the arrest of a convicted felon and the seizure of illegal drugs and a firearm.
Agents with the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics, the Adams County Sheriff’s Office Special Operations Group, and the Natchez Police Department arrested 36-year-old Kedrick Sean Smith at a home on Dumas Drive on Wednesday. During the search, authorities seized approximately two pounds of marijuana, about 50 grams of THC, hydrocodone pills, and a handgun. The Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics, which led the investigation, took custody of the firearm. Smith was booked into the Adams County Jail on multiple charges.
Two Louisiana Tech students have been arrested after a social media video that went viral showed repeated use of a racial slur. In the video, one person can be heard shouting the N-word multiple times over a loudspeaker near Tech’s parking garage on West Mississippi Avenue. Sigma Nu fraternity members 20-year-old Taylor Guerrero of Shreveport and 18-year-old Jackson Gilbert of West Monroe were each arrested for disturbing the peace with loud and abusive language. Ruston Police Chief Eric Watson said the department has zero tolerance for the incident.
The Mississippi Department of Education Office of Child Nutrition announced the availability of federal reimbursement funds for organizations serving healthy meals and snacks through the Child and Adult Care Food Program. The Office of Child Nutrition is seeking applications from eligible facilities to participate in CACFP. The program is funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and administered by the OCN, providing monthly federal reimbursements to eligible institutions serving healthy, affordable meals to children and adults older than age 60 who are enrolled for care. The funding is intended to help cover meal and snack expenses for eligible organizations.
Election Day is one month away, with candidates for U.S. Senate in Louisiana campaigning across the state. The report says Julia Letlow and Jamie Davis are both meeting with voters, and that two publicly released polls commissioned by the Davis campaign show a four-point difference. The report also notes that one candidate polling criticism described the latest poll as “bogus.”
