Along with U.S. House and Senate races, Louisiana voters will vote tomorrow on 10 proposed constitutional amendments. Public Affairs Research Council President Stephen Procopio said the amendments cover a range of topics, including measures that are more complex, fiscal amendments, property tax amendments, and a proposal limiting governors to two lifetime terms. He said the Public Affairs Research Council has a guide available on its website for voters who want to review the amendments before Election Day. Procopio also said many voters are expressing fatigue with the number of amendments, adding that this may point to a need for broader constitutional reform.
In Mississippi, arson damaged the building of the Centotopia Police Department on Saturday morning. It was unclear what caused the fire at the department’s headquarters. The U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and local agencies are investigating. The department has faced community outrage in recent months after an officer shot and killed a one-year-old child, Cohen Wiley, in June while investigating a shoplifting call at a Walmart. Wiley was black and was in a car with his mother, who was unhurt, and her friend, who was seriously injured. The two women denied stealing anything, and no charges have been filed.

U.S. War Secretary Pete Hegseth announced plans for a self-sufficient military installation that could house up to 25,000 service members. Vernon Parish State Representative Chuck Owen said there is already land around Fort Polk, and he referenced additional acreage the parish purchased about 10 years ago. Owen said Central Louisiana could support an installation of city scale, citing the area’s living standards and schools. A location is expected to be chosen in June.
