The measure passed 73-25 and now moves to the Senate.
Mississippi lawmakers will return to Jackson to redraw the state’s Supreme Court maps. Governor Tate Reeves announced a special session to begin three weeks after the U.S. Supreme Court issued its ruling in the Louisiana versus Calais case, which suggested that race should not be considered in map drawing. Prior to the legislative session, a federal judge ruled that several seats in the central district were unconstitutional, but paused the ruling to allow the legislature to address the issue during the 2026 session. Lawmakers did not act during the regular session.
