Bishopric Industries describes itself as a leader in the engineering, fabrication, and execution of process tanks, pressure vessels, and specialty equipment for industrial markets and critical infrastructure sectors. The company said it plans to expand capacity by constructing a new storage facility, adding manufacturing equipment, expanding storage areas, improving gravel and drainage, and installing new gas and water lines.
The Mississippi Development Authority will provide assistance through the Mississippi Flexible Tax Incentive Program, along with help for site improvements. Adams County also said it is assisting with the project.
Separately, a New Orleans man is seeking up to $480,000 in compensation from the state after serving 42 years in jail for a crime he says he did not commit. The man, 69-year-old Elvis Brooks, was found guilty of shooting a man inside a New Orleans bar in 1977. A prosecutor later admitted there was potentially exonerating evidence, and a New Orleans judge overturned the conviction. The report said Brooks has not received compensation.
The report also said Richard Webster wrote an extensive article about Brooks’ case for ProPublica and that Webster believes Attorney General Liz Merle is blocking compensation because Brooks admitted to the crime in a plea deal.
In Mississippi, lawmakers are considering school consolidation. The report said current and former K-12 superintendents shared how prior consolidation decisions affected their schools and communities. It noted that in 2017, lawmakers passed a bill approved by then-Governor Phil Bryant requiring the Houston Municipal Separate School District to join the Chickasaw School District.
Louisiana’s 6th district was also referenced in the report in connection with congressional redistricting, with attention to two Democrats running for the seat.
The report said Mississippi River conditions at Natchez are at 20.56 feet and falling.
