Adams County Sheriff’s deputies responded about 10:15 p.m. to 47 LaGrange Road after a 911 call reported occupants trapped inside an overturned white Toyota pickup truck. Investigators said 53-year-old Marvin Minor Sr. was driving on LaGrange Road when he attempted to pass another vehicle, left the roadway, lost control, and overturned. The vehicle came to rest against a tree. Minor was pronounced dead at the scene. The second occupant was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
In Louisiana’s qualifying news, Blake Miguez is running in the 6th District. Two days after Rick Edmonds challenged him for not living in District 6, Miguez addressed the remarks. When asked about where the other candidates in the district live, Miguez said viewers should find out where they live. He also said he has two homes, and when asked which one he has his homestead exemption for, he responded that it is his home in New Iberia.
The Mississippi State Department of Health is reminding residents to protect themselves from Vibrio bacteria. MSDH said the bacteria live in warm coastal waters and can cause illness when exposed through an open wound or when contaminated seafood is eaten, especially raw oysters. MSDH said Vibrio is most prevalent from May through October when water temperatures are warmer.
MSDH reported 29 Vibrio cases as of Friday, including three cases of V. vulnificus, described as commonly called the flesh-eating bacteria.
Louisiana cyclospora cases continue to increase. Louisiana Department of Health Secretary Bruce Greenstein said Louisiana has 125 cases of exploding diarrhea, up 25 from one week ago. The most recent reports cited by LDH were two clusters of six cases each, where romaine lettuce is suspected as the vehicle. The segment said romaine lettuce was the only common fresh ingredient among the cases, and the FDA is working to determine the source of the lettuce.
