LAUREL, Miss. — A large fire at Howard Industries in Laurel prompted the evacuation of employees Monday afternoon as firefighters from across Jones County responded to the scene.
Multiple fire departments were called to the Howard Industries facility as crews worked to contain the blaze.
According to a statement from Laurel Mayor Johnny Magee, the fire began in a paint booth near a tanker truck carrying an explosive substance.
Authorities are asking the public to avoid the area while emergency crews work. Additional traffic near the facility could slow the response and create added hazards for employees and first responders.
No injuries have been reported at this time, and details about the extent of the damage have not yet been released.
This is a developing story and will be updated as additional information becomes available.
