There are no injuries associated with a truck catching fire on U.S. 84 yesterday. The driver was near old 84 number 3 when the truck caught fire. The driver pulled over and got out. By the time fire crews arrived, the vehicle was engulfed in flames. No word on what started the fire was provided.
Louisiana shrimpers are asking the federal government for help. The Louisiana Shrimp Association says imported shrimp is greatly denting the livelihoods of Louisiana shrimpers. The association also cites concerns beyond pricing, including restaurant practices about shrimp origins, the mixing of imported and domestic shrimp, and what it describes as near non-existent inspection of imported shrimp. The association is asking the federal government to limit shrimp imports to 1.5 billion pounds a year.
The Mississippi Business Alliance announced Lockheed Martin’s C-130J Super Hercules as the winner of the 2026 Mississippi Makers Challenge. The challenge determines what the alliance says is the coolest thing made in Mississippi. The announcement described the C-130J Super Hercules as being used for medical evacuation, aerial refueling, firefighting, humanitarian relief, and combat operations. The aircraft was described as known for versatility, adaptability, and dependability for operations involving 27 nations.
The U.S. Department of Health awarded more than $2 million to the University of Louisiana at Lafayette as part of an initiative to improve health care in rural areas. The university said almost $1.6 million of that funding will go toward the College of Nursing and Health Sciences. The college said the goal is to prepare student nurses to work as practitioners in rural areas with limited access to the health care they need. The college said the grant will allow it to admit additional students.
