A citizen complaint resulted in an arrest in Natchez involving allegations of drug possession and other offenses, according to the Adams County Sheriff’s Office.
Richard Washington, 67, was accused of putting what authorities believe was crack cocaine into his mouth and swallowing it during an encounter with law enforcement. The Sheriff’s Office said he became combative when deputies attempted to take him into custody. Washington was charged with possession of crack cocaine, tampering with evidence, possession of drug paraphernalia, and resisting arrest, among other counts.
In Louisiana, a new report indicates the state has moved down in national rankings for obesity. The State of Obesity 2026 report says Louisiana fell from number 3 to number 19 among the most obese states in the country. The report credits the increased popularity of GLP-1 drugs as a key factor. The report also states that, based on available long-term evidence, benefits outweigh side effects.
Multiple frozen berry products have been recalled across 33 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico, including in Mississippi and Louisiana. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration said the recalled items include Great Value Frozen Organic Triple Berry Blend 10-ounce, Great Value Frozen Organic Blueberries 10-ounce, and Trader Joe’s Frozen Organic Mixed Berry Blend. The recall follows an expanded action from a company in Chile after recalls in July and September, and centers on possible E. coli contamination.
At the University of Louisiana System, UL System President Rick Gallot said higher-end leaders will need to make decisions about deficits faced by university athletic departments. Gallot said a suggestion to move ULL, ULM, and La Tech to the FCS as a way to reduce athletic spending was only a suggestion, and that a final decision will be made after the system receives a financial report from Deloitte. He said the report will examine all schools in the system and that leaders will be data-driven. Gallot also said the academic mission of universities should remain a priority.
